Myth #1: I Need an X-ray or Scan to Detect the Source of My Back Pain
“The scientific evidence suggest that scans are only necessary for a few people with back pain. These are the people who have more serious forms of back pain, for example, back pain due to a fracture or infection.
“A thorough clinical examination will identify those people who may have a more serious form of back pain where imaging is needed. Most people with back pain have ‘non-specific’ back pain that is not due to a serious disease or injury and so imaging is not necessary. If your doctor tells you that you don’t need imaging, it is good news.” ~ Dr. Bruno Saragiotto
